This is a wet start, a short distance from the bank and about 50 metres from the finish line. The first and second buoys are clearly visible, but the finish is difficult to see as the bank is packed with spectators and umbrellas. There are extra marker buoys at the finish.

PRIZES AND GIVE-AWAYS
The first three finishers in each event receive gold, and positions four to 10 win silver. Medals are awarded to all finishers. Spot prizes are also awarded throughout the day. There are trophies for all school events.
WATER QUALITY
The water is clean and relatively clear with visibility up to two or three metres. The water temperature is just right. Water-grass at the edges does not affect participants. The pristine quality of the dam’s water is largely due to the catchment area in the nearby nature reserve.
LAYOUT
From the start the swim goes out to the first buoy at about 30 degrees to the bank. After rounding this buoy the course goes to the bank to the second buoy before turning back to the finish.
FACILITES
There are permanent ablution facilities including showers. The organisers put additional porta-loos for the day but expect to queue. There are food stalls and refreshments on sale. There is ample parking with camping facilities and grass to sit on. Bring an umbrella for sun protection.
